Atlas VPN only launched in January 2020, but is already on the lips of many VPN users. It is advertised as a free VPN service that values your privacy, doesnt bombard you with ads, has no data usage caps, and uses military-grade encryption. In short, he says its something many other "free" VPN brands dont, and frankly, thats heartwarming. Of course, if you want optimized and faster services, Altas VPN also offers a Premium version.

This VPN provider also offers real speed, with over 570 servers spread across 17 countries during its one year of operation. Connections are fast, reliable, secure with IPv6 protocol, and protect against DNS and WebRTC leaks. The apps work with popular internet services and support Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, and Chrome will soon.
Another thing we love about this service is that they collect very limited data from users. In fact, if youre using the free version, you dont even need to register! Sounds good so far, but now lets learn more about this service and see if they are as good as they claim.
Privacy / Anonymity
Atlas VPN uses an industry standard combination of AES-256 and IPSec/IKEv2 to keep internet traffic safe. This makes it completely unbreakable so you dont have to worry about hackers getting your information. So how much data does Atlas VPN itself hold? According to their Privacy Policy:
We are a no-logs VPN: we do not collect your real IP address and do not store any information that identifies where you surf the internet, what you view or do through this VPN connection. The only information we collect is for fundamental analysis purposes, which allows us to provide a great service to all our users. It also means that we have no data to share with law enforcement and government agencies that request information about what you are doing using a VPN connection.”
Yes, considering that Altas VPN is under the jurisdiction of the 15 Eyes” contract, this is a shame. With this record keeping policy, they do not keep any data they can give to the government or law enforcement. Additionally, Atlas VPN has a Kill Switch that protects you from data leaks in case of disconnections. Another useful feature is SafeBrowse”, which warns you when you are about to open a malicious or potentially harmful site. It is worth noting that at the time of this writing, both the Kill Switch and SafeBrowse features are only supported in Android and iOS apps.
Speed and Reliability
To test the speed and reliability of Atlas VPN, we used it for several weeks not only for video conferencing and downloading, but also for online gaming and surfing the web. Before connecting to a server, we typically had an average download speed of 49 Mbps and an upload speed of 7 Mbps. Our download speed remained stable and there was hardly any difference when we connected to a local server, with an average of 41 Mbps and upload speeds of around 4 Mbps. Not surprisingly, speeds dropped a bit as soon as we switched to a US server (we were somewhere in Europe at the time of this review). It dropped from an initial download speed of 49 Mbps to about 37 Mbps, and the upload speed also dropped to 3 Mbps. Overall, our experience has been very satisfactory. With this,
Platforms and Devices
Atlas VPN is compatible with your mobile phones, tablets, laptops and desktop computers and supports a range of platforms including Android, iOS, macOS and Windows. Today, Atlas VPN does not work on OSX clients.
Server Locations
Today, Atlas VPN has a total of 573 offerings in 17 countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and USA.
Customer service
Atlas VPN has an extensive FAQ section within the HELP tab. Although the articles were not well organized, the Search bar was extremely helpful. If that doesnt work either, you can email them at any time at support@atlasvpn.com. If youre a premium subscriber, simply log in and youll have access to 24/7 dedicated customer support.
Prices
Lets start by discussing the differences between free and paid subscription first. The free version basically gives you unlimited bandwidth, data encryption and encapsulation, as well as limited access to only 3 locations: USA, Japan and Australia. On the other hand, here are the features you get with a premium subscription:
- 20+ locations and 500+ servers worldwide.
- 24/7 dedicated customer support.
- Simultaneous use of premium services on an unlimited number of devices.
- SafeBrowse feature and security control.
- Higher speed performance and unlimited bandwidth.
Now that weve talked about all of this, we can talk prices. Considering that the average monthly fee for a VPN service is around $5, the monthly fee of $9.99 isnt exactly competitive. However, at $2.49 per month, the price drops significantly if you subscribe annually, and you pay an even lower $1.39/month if you pay in advance for 3 years. Let us remind you again that Atlas VPN does not impose a limit on the number of devices included in a premium account, although it is not exactly the cheapest on the market. So, you dont need to buy an extra subscription to cover all your devices at home!
