Installing the latest version of DirectX is important for you to be able to play games with high image quality on your Windows computer. You can use the DxDiag tool to find out if the latest DirectX version is installed on your computer. DxDiag gives detailed information about DirectX components installed on your system, drivers and how to use them.

In Windows 10, you can find the DirectX version on the first page of the report in the System Information section by clicking Start and typing dxdiag in the Search box. If youre using a computer with Windows 8 or 8.1, swipe from the right edge of the screen, then tap Search, type dxdiag in the box and youll see the DirectX version on the first page of the report in the System Information section. If you are a Windows 7 and XP user, click Start and type dxdiag in the search box, then you can see the DirectX version on the first page in System Information. Windows 10 comes with DirectX version 11.3 installed. You can do the update via Windows Update. Windows 8.1 DirectX 11.1 comes with Windows 8 DirectX 11.2 and you can install it via Windows Update. Windows 7 comes with DirectX 11.You can update DirectX by installing platform update KB2670838 for Windows 7. Windows Vista comes with DirectX 10, but you can upgrade to DirectX 11.0 by installing update KB971512. Windows XP comes with DirectX 9.0c.

DirectX 9 is required for some applications and games. However, your computer has a newer version of DirectX. If you run an application or game that requires DirectX 9 after installation, you may receive an error message like: The program cannot start because your computer does not have the d3dx9_35.dll file. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem. To solve this problem, simply click the Download DirectX button above and install the DirectX End-User Runtime software.
